The Skate of the Union Race
is your chance to skate on the Fairfax County Police Department's
Driver Training Facility with no speed limit restrictions!
There are inline skating opportunities for everyone - whether you wear
5-wheeled speed skates or have never worn inline skates.
Half
Marathon
For the speed and recreational skaters who would like to race against
the clock for 13.1 miles (12 laps).
Open
Track Skate
For skaters
who simply want to experience skating on the track.
FREE
Learn to Inline Skate Clinic
We all have to start somewhere. Certified Instructors from
Skater's Quest will be available to provide FREE basic
instruction. Rollerblade brand inline skates and protective
equipment are available for FREE use if you don't yet own your
own gear!

REQUIREMENTS
Eligibility
All Half Marathon
participants must be 13 years of age or older and able to maintain a
minimum of a 9-minutes per mile pace.
Waiver
All skating participants must check in and complete a waiver prior to entering The Skate of the
Union Race.
Drafting
& Etiquette
Cross-gender drafting is permitted.
All Open Track Skaters and
slower Half Marathon Skaters are requested to skate on the outside of
the track to allow for incident free passing.
Event
Number
Participants in the Half Marathon and the Open Track Skate must wear
their event number on their left thigh to access the track.
The
event numbers will also have a tear tag for the Half Marathon finishers
to hand in after crossing the finish line. As this will not be a
chip-timed event, all finishers must maintain their finishing order
while in the finishers chute.
Protective
Equipment
Protective equipment will be
available for anyone to borrow during the Skate of the Union Race.
All Half Marathon and Open
Track Skate participants are required to wear a helmet and wrist
protection. Knee and elbow pads are recommended.
All
participants in the FREE Learn to Inline Skate Clinic are required to
wear full protective equipment (wrist, elbow and knee pads &
helmet).
Additional
Safety Precautions
Only inline skates will be
permitted. Headphones,
skateboards and animals are not
permitted. Baby joggers & strollers are not permitted on the
track.
Personal
Hydration System
It is
recommended that all participants bring their own personal hydration
system (e.g. water bottle or Camelbak). There will be water
available for all on-site.
Inclement
Weather Policy
The Half Marathon and
Open Track Skate will occur rain or shine. No skating will be
permitted in the case of lightning.
The FREE
Learn to Inline Skate Clinic will be canceled if the pavement is wet.

Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female Half Marathon
finishers in each age category.

FREE
LEARN TO INLINE SKATE CLINIC
Join us for Skate for Health Day
2007! If you aren't ready to test yourself on
the track, you have an opportunity to try
inline skating with instruction from Skater's Quest Certified Instructors.
Learn the basics of
inline skating including the proper use of your protective gear, how to
get moving and how to use that heel brake to stop. Supervised
practice time is built in. This lesson is perfect for those
who have never tried inline skating or for those that would like to get
back to the basics.
Protective
Equipment
All
participants in the FREE Learn to Inline Skate Clinic are required to
wear full protective equipment (wrist, elbow and knee pads &
helmet). If you do not own skates or protective gear, we will have
it available for you to borrow (free of charge)!

skating the Half Marathon but aren't sure how to start your training,

Quest Fitness Inline Training (FIT) Program. During this
5-week program, you will stay motivated while learning how to train for
a skating endurance event from experienced inline race mentors.
Training starts on Thursday, April 5th!
