As a Level II Certified Instructor, I have taken many inline skating lessons over the years. Here are a few tips I've found helpful for getting the most from your lessons with Skaters Quest.
1. Fuel and Lubrication -- The body and mind need fuel to operate effectively especially when learning. Eat something healthy before your lesson. Water helps lubricate joints and
connective tissue so hydrate before, during and after each lesson.
2. Time -- Arrive early to sign a waiver, gear up, warm up and practice skills from the previous lesson since
we'll be building upon those in this lesson.
3. Watch -- The instructor will demonstrate each new skill. Watch closely since this is the goal at which all exercises are aimed. Also watch fellow students execute the drills so you can emulate the great things they do as well as recognize ineffective movement patterns and remove them from your skating.
4. Participate -- Give your best effort to each exercise no matter how simple or complex it seems. We use progressions that build to the goal so each exercise has an important purpose.
5. Ask -- If you have a question chances are someone else has the same question. Everyone learns when you ask questions and it also deepens your
understanding.
6. Review -- Each Certified Instructor will review the 3 key steps used to build skills. If
it's unclear ask for clarification. If you have difficulty remembering them, take a moment to write them down after the lesson and use the notes as you practice.
7. Practice -- Especially helpful if done within 24 hours of the lesson as it's easier to remember the exercises and movement patterns. Several short practice sessions during the week will be more helpful than one long session.
8. Return -- We like to see your progress and we'll build on each lesson as we add new more advanced skills. So come back and see us.
9. Feedback --Give us feedback either in person or via email so we know what we can improve and what was helpful.
I have found these tips helpful in increasing my ability and enjoyment of inline skating and hope they do the same for you.
